1886 : The "Franchi Company" was established (later on, in 1916 it has been renamed as INNSE). The Franchi were originally constituted as a foundry of cylinders.

1900: After the merger with the company Griffin of Milan started with the production of wheels in temperate cast iron for the railroads. The diversification, started subsequently, saw the Franchi concentrated in the acquisition and construction of mines, electric stations that guaranteed the continuous supply of materials and energy. In few years the business became one of the largest Italian industrial complexes, at the beginning of the twentieth century counted 400 workers and to the end of the war reached the 32,000 workers.

1926 : Berardi builds the first single-seated car in the world.

1930: Berardi dedicates his efforts in the creation of the first two-shaft type "boxer" model marine engine with compressor : thus was established the Rino Berardi S.p.A.
Due to body shop needs, in 1926 the first sensitive drilling machines was built up and we can consider it as the milestone of the production of Berardi S.p.A.
The requirements from some colleagues and the needs to realize competition engines, radial engines for aviation and also complete car lead Mr. Rino Berardi to give a more defined trend to his enterprise.
From this moment the Berardi Co. starts its own activity that is to say the production of machine tools that during the next 50 years will become an historical trade-mark of international level.


1926: Rino Berardi and count Aymo Maggi,
who realised and drove the 'Berardi Maggi',
the worlds' first one-sitter.

1941: is built-up the first transfer circular type machines and during the

1960: the first linear-type transfer machine. The NC transfer lines, the CNC machining centres and the flexible transfer machining lines (FMS) will be realized later on.

1989: The industrial events connected to the problems of the end of the 80s put these two Companies in the condition to undergo the same destiny of many other important and prestigious European names.

Being aware of the importance of these two industrial names, the Italian Government, through the Industry and the Treasury Ministries allows the reorganization of the two companies as foreseen by the "Prodi" law

1997: the CAMOZZI GROUP buys the Berardi S.p.a. and in July of the same year it buys also the INNSE Machine Tools thus creating the basis for the Italian pole of the machines tool:

Camozzi Machine Tools Division.

2002: Innse-Berardi S.p.a. obtained the certification ISO 9001 2000 from DNV.

2003: the Machine Tools Division has further strengthened with the acquisition of Ingersoll in the United States, business Leader in the construction of special machine tools for the fields: Aeronautic, Aerospace, Defence and Energy.

The integration of the knowledge of all the companies has allowed a strong competitive position in the production of machine tools for the sectors of Defence, Automotive, Aerospace, Energy and Transport (Railway and Navy).

The strong synergies in act will allow the Camozzi Machine Tools to reach the position of Leader in those strategic areas where Ingersoll is already known worlwide.
